Dear Mr. Hess, Praying that God will comfort your family during this heartbreaking time. Remembering fondly many shared family vacation trips to Cheatham Annex, Easter Egg hunts at the cannon park in Portsmouth, and the goofy songs you would sing with us as kids, ending with a bow and a "Tatanka!" (a la Dances with Wolves). Wishing you peace, Mr. Hess. You're gone too soon.

I can only echo my sister's sentiments. Few people have been such a positive and wonderful presence in my life as the Hess family. They are such an incredibly strong, faithful, and caring family who are always there for others in their times of need. Mr. Hess, you were such a wonderful example of what it means to live a life of service, honor, integrity, loyalty, spirit, humor, and kindess. The world could use more people like you, and while the thought of you being gone still feels very unreal, I'm so thankful to have had you as part of my entire life. May all those who have gone on before you greet with you open arms and may God comfort your loved ones left behind. You'll be deeply missed.
