I am saddened to hear of Xav's passing at so young an age. He was an excellent teacher and friend. I really appreciated his Christmas parties for engineering alumni. They let me stay in touch even though I moved far from Baltimore.

Xav was a caring individual who wanted to share time with others close to him in his personal and professional life. He was generous in his social life often inviting family, friends and students into the warm home that he filled with accordion music, home made wine and even a spaghetti tree, a creation of his during one of his late night family get-togethers. No one ever saw it, but he insisted it existed.
Xav was a teacher to many, not the least involved the skills of throwing and catching a ball with his oldest grandson, Brandan. This was just one of many important life lessons that he left here on this earth.
May we all remember Xav in a special way. He was and still is one of a kind!

Dear Spiegel Family,

Our deepest sympathies on Xav’s passing. Xav was a true student, family man, scholar, and educator. As s Loyola Professor, Xav did his absolute best to improve his student’s knowledge of Physics and Engineering Sciences. Along with this educational experience, came Xav’s unique perspectives on life’s lessons, Jesuitic ideals, and a commitment to improve lives. Xav lived up to the standards of his name sake - St. Francis Xavier, who cofounded the Jesuit order with St Ignatius Loyola.

This the St Ignatius Loyola prayer that helped guide Xav’s life:

Dearest Lord.
Teach us to be generous.
Teach us to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not count the costs;
To fight and not heed to wound;
To toil and not seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Except that of knowing
that we are doing your will.

We will deeply miss Xav as our relative, and friend. His former students will remember Xav as natural teacher, who significantly contributed to their Engineering career development and success.

May God Bless Xav, and may he rest in eternal peace.

Love,

Joe & Dianne Dvornicky

To the Spiegel Family,
We are deeply saddened to learn of Xav's passing and for your loss. Xav was a special guy and it was always enjoyable to be in his company. As a kid, I remember his visits to our home in Overlea and how he loved to play (as he called it) "sitsy upsy" with family members and friends to the wee small hours of the morning sharing stories and beverages. The last person not to sleep was the winner - it was usually Xav!
God Bless Xav. May he rest in peace.
