Victor “Vic” John Michalski, 91, of Brandywine Senior Living, Fenwick Island, DE, and formally of Ferndale and Baltimore, Maryland passed away suddenly after a 2-week, hospital stay. His two daughters, Sharon and Kathy were by his side day and night to love and support him. The love of his life was childhood sweetheart, Catherine “Pat” Michalski who recently preceded him in death just 7 months ago. Victor’s love of Pat was extraordinary and admirable as he was an amazingly strong, supportive and devoted husband for close to 70 years of marriage. Their incredible bond will go on as they rest happily together in peaceful love.
Vic’s family was his world. He is survived by two loving daughters, Sharon Marie Schultz, Fenwick Island, DE and Katherine Lynn Michalski (Baltimore/Laurel), and son-in-low Paul Gush, two granddaughters, Anastasia Lombardi, Linthicum, MD and Victoria Price, Clayton, NC, two grandson-in-laws, Alex Lombardi and Nicholas Price. He was very proud to have 4 great grandchildren and one, soon to be born, next month.
Vic was born in Curtis Bay (Baltimore) as one of five children to beloved parents, Joseph and Marie Michalski. He is survived by his loving baby brother, John Stanley Michalski and sister-in-law Pat Michalski, of Pasadena, MD and sister-in-law Jackie Michalski, of Pasadena, MD, Ruth Caple and Beverly Mey. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Pearl Komoroski, Dorothy Halikas, and Joseph Michalski. Vic is also survived by 15 loving nieces and nephews and 2, a nephew and niece, who preceded him by death.
Vic went to Southern High School in South Baltimore and then on to the University of Maryland, College Park. He worshiped and served as an alter boy at Saint Athanasius Church in Curtis Bay and later joined the Saint Philip Neri perish in Linthicum, MD once moving to Ferndale, MD in 1961. He was employed at General Refractories, in Brooklyn MD and later retired from the Housing Authority of Baltimore City. He also served in the US Army from 1957 – 1961 both in Ft Dix, NJ and Germany.
Vic had strong city roots in Curtis Bay, MD growing up in a Polish neighborhood and living in his parents’ restaurant and bar, Sharkey’s. He played saxophone in the Curtis Bay Marching band, loved jumping street cars and running with neighborhood kids and was very proud of his Polish heritage. He was a huge sports fan of the Baltimore Colts and Ravens and was looking forward to a rebound season for his beloved Baltimore Orioles.
Vic had a huge love of jazz and Polish music and played the saxophone and clarinet in a band with his two brothers and two friends. He and Pat loved traveling with family and friends, especially overseas. But their happy place was a vacation home in Swann Keys, DE of 34 years - Vic’s favorite spot to sit quietly and enjoy the water view and wildlife. His other hobbies included fishing, hunting, cooking, tinkering with projects, watching war movies, the History Channel, Public TV, National Geographic and especially nature shows which he and Pat enjoyed together. He prided himself on keeping a beautiful lawn while Pat did the gardening where they’d enjoy a deck Happy Hour listening to music and watching birds. Together, they loved welcoming guests in their home for good food and conversation.
Vic will be remembered as someone who was always there to listen, provide age-old wisdom and advice, tell stories that made you laugh, think, and cry and lend a hand when he was able. His mindful presence made you feel important and special to him as he loved all whom he met. He will be missed, loved and remembered greatly.
