Thomas Gerard Nappi, 66, died in his home surrounded by his family on the morning of May 15, 2026 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Baltimore and a Brooklyn native, he attended PS 203 and Brooklyn Park High School. He enjoyed playing baseball and football among other sports, preferring the pick up street games with kids in the neighborhood to any formal leagues. He always spoke fondly of all of his memories and the antics of his Brooklyn friends, who knew him as Tommy. They remained his greatest friends to the end.
While attending UMBC, he began dating his wife Margaret of Pasadena at the suggestion of his best friend Joe. They married at St. Jane Frances in Pasadena where they raised their two daughters. He was a devoted father in every respect, sharing his love of music, movies, travel, and the outdoors, and his zeal for life with his family.
Tom had a long career as a graphic designer with the Maryland Department of Human Services, as well as an extensive career photographing Maryland’s governors, from William Donald Schaeffer all the way to Wes Moore. He was known as a dedicated, hard-working man during his 30+ years with the state of Maryland.
Tom was a man of many hobbies. A lover of the water, his truest passion was sailing. He worked on and raced boats as a younger man and later dabbled in celestial navigation and charting. He was also an artist who loved to paint, draw, and photograph the natural beauty of Maryland. His work adorns every wall of the family home. When he did not have a paintbrush or camera in his hands, Tom most certainly had his guitar. He played throughout his life on his own and with friends. His music echoed through his home daily, bringing peace and delight to his wife and daughters.
Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren, who knew him affectionately as ‘Pa.’ He loved vacationing with them and eating breakfast together at 3B’s after church every Sunday. They loved him dearly for his kind, gentle, yet playful nature.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Arthur, his mother, Rita, and his brother, Arthur. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret; their children, Megan Jeffrey and her husband Royce and Michelle Hugill and her husband Mark; and grandchildren, Rita, Stephen, Samuel, and Ruth.
He was a good man. A friend to everyone and an enemy to none. May his soul rest in the peace of our Heavenly Father and enjoy the paradise promised to all who faithfully serve our Lord Jesus Christ.
Viewings to be held at Gonce Funeral Home in Riviera Beach from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, May 19th. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jane Frances in Pasadena at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 20th with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery to follow.
