Robert "Bob" Switzer Obituary

Switzer, Robert E. "Bob"

On November 2, 2021, Robert E. “Bob” Switzer passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 79.  He was the son of the late William and Dorothy Switzer and beloved husband of Betty Switzer with who he had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  He was a devoted father to his son Brian and wife Rachel and daughter Kerri and husband Terry.  He was the cherished brother of Carol Lanham and husband Gene and the late Butch Switzer.  He was blessed with 6 grandchildren (Cody and wife Langley, Cameron, Killian, Cole, Max and Mason) and 1 great grandchild (Livia).

Bob was born in Odenton and attended Arundel High School where he played soccer, basketball and baseball and was named the school’s outstanding athlete in 1959.  Bob served in the Air Force for 5 years before joining the Anne Arundel County Police Department where he was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 70.  Upon retirement from the police department after 27 years, Bob worked as a bailiff for the next 21 years at the District Court of Anne Arundel County.  In his spare time, Bob enjoyed softball, camping, bowling, bingo, watching sports and cheering on his grandchildren's’ sports teams.

Family requests relatives and friends to visit the family owned Gonce Funeral Service P.A. 169 Riviera Dr. On Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Service will begin at 7:30 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be sent in his name to the School Sisters of Notre Dame (6401 N. Charles Street; Baltimore, MD 21212).

Please feel free to express your condolences on his tribute wall.

"Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times,
a loved one's touch.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now; He set me free."
