On January 9, 2024, Robert V. Helferstay passed away at the age of 87 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of the late Caroline F. Helferstay, devoted and loving father of Donna Miller and her husband Victor, and his son Robert M. Helferstay, his granddaughter Marissa Miller-Vasquez, who is the light of his life, and her husband Gio Vasquez.
Robert grew up in Baltimore, started his family, and later moved them to Anne Arundel County. He served in the United States Army for two years as an SP4. He was employed at Westinghouse which later became Northrup Grumman for over 40 years. While employed, he enjoyed bowling on a league with his coworkers. He enjoyed taking his son to the movies and fishing when he was just a boy, and when his granddaughter was young, he loved riding the tram with her on the boardwalk in Ocean City. He had a passion for working with his hands. He had skills that included wood working, electrical and plumbing. He put these skills to work making many decorations and modifications to his home. He enjoyed spending time at home with his family where he loved watching old western movies. He was especially fond of John Wayne and was an enthusiastic collector of old western memorabilia. Robert was a devoted family man who always put his family’s needs and wants before his own. He will be greatly missed.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Hospice of the Chesapeake
