Richard Spaniol Obituary

In Loving Memory of Richard “Mitch” Spaniol
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend
April 3, 1948 – September 20, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Spaniol, a man whose life was defined by quiet strength, tender kindness, and unwavering generosity.

Richard was the beloved husband of Colleen Spaniol, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Christina Lawrence and her husband Christopher, and to Kimberly Joslin and her husband Bob. Affectionately known as “Poppy,” he was a loving and proud grandfather to Christopher, Matthew, and Elizabeth Lawrence.

He was the dear brother of Mary Spaniol, and was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Louis Spaniol, and his brothers, George and Louis Spaniol.

Richard’s dedication and work ethic were second to none. He worked for Signature Flight Support for over 40 years, where he was known not only for his reliability, but also for doing the work of multiple employees without ever seeking recognition. After retiring, he continued to serve others by taking on a part-time job at Colleen’s workplace, assisting with maintenance and facility upkeep.

Affectionately known as "Mitch," he quickly became a beloved figure. Everyone looked forward to the three days a week he worked, knowing that whatever they needed, whether it was a box of Kleenex, or a jump start for their vehicle, Mitch would be there, ready to help and always armed with a good story. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of reliability that can never be replaced.

Richard was a lifelong sports fan who found joy in cheering on his favorite teams. He rarely missed a game, faithfully watching the Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Terrapins, and Baltimore Orioles. You could always count on him in his chair, living every moment alongside his teams with passion and pride.

An outdoorsman at heart, Richard loved fishing, crabbing, and hunting. He was always bringing food to the table, whether it be from his garden or from the shore, and these pastimes brought him countless stories. These moments in nature were not just hobbies, but a reflection of his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Richard’s love language was food, and he found immense joy in cooking for his family and friends. He fed more than stomachs, since he nourished hearts and souls with every meal he prepared.

Richard’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and humility. He taught by example, lived with integrity, and gave selflessly. While our hearts ache with his loss, we are forever grateful for the time we shared with him and the enduring memories he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
