Raymond Lavonis Obituary

Raymond Lavonis, of Glen Burnie, passed away on May 23, 2026 at the age of 78. He lived a life defined by loyalty, service, passion and unwavering devotion to the people and pursuits he loved.

A proud graduate of Southern High School, Raymond spent much of his life in the Glen Burnie community he called home. He proudly served 2 years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Charles F. Adams. His service took him across the world, including visits to Italy and Rome, experiences he cherished and spoke of often. His military service was a source of immense pride. Family members fondly recall when his brother was drafted, Raymond stepped forward to serve, a reflection of his selflessness and dedication.

Baseball was one of his greatest passions. His talent on the field earned him attention from the Baltimore Orioles, who scouted him during his younger years. Though a knee injury ended his dream of a professional playing career, it never diminished his love for the game. Instead, he shared that passion with the next generation as a beloved coach for the Renegades Little League team in Glen Burnie, where he taught not only baseball skills but also sportsmanship and teamwork.

His enthusiasm for sports extended well beyond baseball. He was an avid football fan who delighted in meeting members of both the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. He was a collector of sports memorabilia, carefully preserving pieces of the games and athletes he admired. Raymond was an accomplished bowler who enjoyed competing in local Glen Burnie bowling leagues.

Music was another lifelong love. He was fortunate to meet many of the musicians he admired and even stepped in as a guitarist for his sister's band, Texas Cowboys, creating memories that remained close to his heart.

Raymond had a special affection for animals, especially dogs, and found joy in their companionship throughout his life.

Of all his accomplishments and adventures, however, none brought Raymond greater pride or happiness than being a father. The bond he and his daughter shared was the center of his life and a source of endless pride.

Raymond will be remembered for his stories, his pride and dedication, and his love of sports and music.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Leonard Lavonis, mother Margaret Doris Lavonis (nee Haas); and sister Linda Riggins (Lavonis). He is survived by his brother Bruce Lavonis; daughter Wendi R. Lavonis; son-in-law Wayne Daugherty; granddaughter Mandy Daugherty; 2 great grandsons Hunter and Grason; and niece Susan Riggins.

Feel free to express your condolences on his tribute wall.
