Nancy Loretta Lance
February 14, 1963 - May 21, 2026
Nancy Loretta Lance passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 63 in Baltimore, MD, after a history of health complications. She was born February 14, 1963 (Valentine's Day), in Baltimore, MD, to William and Loretta Murphy, growing up as the youngest of five children and the only daughter.
She attended Brooklyn Park High School, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and listening to Elvis and Donny Osmond. Nancy went on to work in human resources and benefits-related roles for Johns Hopkins University for more than 30 years before retiring in 2015.
Nancy was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore Highlands, where she taught Sunday School to sixth through eighth grade children. Some of her favorite memories were church-related functions, including organized girls' trips to New York City.
She had a big heart for those in need, always offering what she could and more. That care extended to animals as well, including her beloved dogs throughout the years.
When she was able, Nancy loved visiting Ocean City, MD, to watch the waves and sunsets. She also cherished her time as a grandmother, doing whatever activities she could with her grandsons. Above all, she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Blair Lance; her children, David Biglari and Kathleen Rowan; her grandsons, William and Christopher Rowan; and her brothers, Michael and Thomas Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, James Gosnell II, Jack Shifflet, William Murphy, and Maureen Spine.
Arrangements will be held on May 28, 2026, at Gonce Funeral Home, 4001 Ritchie Hwy, Brooklyn Park, MD 21225. Viewing will begin at 8 a.m., with services starting at 10 a.m. Interment will follow immediately after at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5829 Ritchie Hwy, Brooklyn Park, MD 21225.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).
