Mary Alice Martin (Thiess) passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love, on January 20, 2025. She was 94 years old. Mary was born in 1930 to Erma (Smith) and George Thiess in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the oldest of eight children. She married the love of her life, Donald D. Martin, Sr., on Thanksgiving day in her early 20's, and they were married for over 50 years. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her oldest grandson Joshua Turek who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her three children, Mary (Cindy) Bartlinski, Donald (Danny) Martin Jr, and Lisa Turek, her three grandchildren Joey, Shanna, and Mandi, four great-grandchildren Chase, Max, Charlotte, and JJ, and her younger sister Carol Bergin.
Mary was easy to love. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting ceramics while gathering with family and friends. Later in life, Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time in the casino. Reading books, putting puzzles together, and watching TV were her favorite pastimes at home. Sparkly things made her happy and Disney World brought her joy. Christmas time was when she shined the brightest, transforming her house into a beautiful Christmas wonderland. But above all, Mary's family meant everything to her. She lead them with her strength and wisdom, and will always remain their guiding light. Mary will be profoundly missed and never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Mary’s life at Gonce Funeral Home, 4001 Ritchie Highway, Baltimore, Md 21225, Sunday, January 26th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Gonce, Monday, January 27th, at 11am. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
