Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) Johnson, 79, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Bethania Home Care in Westminster, MD. She was the beloved wife of Robert Johnson until his passing in 1985.
Raised in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angela Mrozek. She was the youngest of ten children. After her husband’s passing, Mary Jo worked for the Department of Defense for 21 years until she retired.
Mary Jo was active in her parish for many years and was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She earned a BA in Religious Studies at Notre Dame of Maryland University.
She is survived by her four children, Cailey Gehan and husband Robert, Robert Johnson Jr, Michael Johnson and wife Sandra, and Richard Johnson and wife Jennifer.Mary Jo was also blessed with twelve grandchildren, Krysta Johnson, Caitey Gehan and husband Arif, Timothy Johnson, Nicholas Gehan and wife Emily, Noah and Jeremy Gehan, Abigail, Hannah, Xavier, Elizabeth, Olivia, and Rebecca Johnson, along with one great-granddaughter Fatima Khan.Mary Jo went to great lengths to be present for and to take care of her family.
The family would like to express our appreciation for her wonderful care at Bethania Home Care in Westminster, and for the hospice care provided by Bridging Life.
Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church in Glen Burnie or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Family request family and friends visit the family owned Gonce Funeral Service P.A. 4001 Ritchie Highway on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10 AM in Christ the King Catholic Church. Followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
