Joyce Carolyn Eckart (Nee Schisler) of Westminster, MD, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, May 23, 2026. She recently celebrated her 86th birthday on April 26. She is the beloved wife of the late Julius E. Eckart and devoted mother to five children, Denise Regiec and husband Ken, Diana Goodwin and husband Jeffrey, Laura Zwolinski and husband Robert, Stephen Eckart, and Joseph M. Eckart and wife Michelle. She is lovingly known as “Mom mom” or “Granny” to 13 grandchildren- Kenny Regiec, II. and Amanda Regiec Carter, David, Lauren, Hunter and Jacob Goodwin, Ed, Eric, and Joe Zwolinski, Kristin and Samantha Eckart, and Ryan and Katelyn Eckart; 10 great-grandchildren- Alexis Foy, Joshua and Christopher Hays, Alanna Carter, Dawson and Ronan Goodwin, Saoirse and Eleanor Russell, and Caroline and Callen Hughes. Joyce was a bonus grandmother to many, a beloved aunt, sister, cousin, daughter and friend.
Joyce was a dedicated Christian and life-long member of Sts. Stephen and James Lutheran Church, Baltimore, MD, where she was a part of the original merging of the two historic congregations in 1962. She walked a beautiful life journey marked by a strength and endurance that can only come from one’s strong faith. Joyce shared her faith through the gift of music, participating in various forms of choirs and musical groups throughout her life. She was always ready with a song to fit the occasion and her cheerful exuberance shared her light wherever she went.
Joyce built community wherever her life’s journey took her. She was in several book clubs, travel groups, choirs, dance and yoga classes, and was a frequent visitor of the South Carroll Senior Center. She had a profound ability to constantly think of others and would keep in touch by writing weekly letters on stationary that she would spend hours picking out specifically for each person.
Joyce is love. She shared her love in her words and actions. She modeled love for her children and grandchildren as a cherished matriarch that will forever be missed. Her grandchildren will carry the love of their grandmother in their hearts always, with a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.
Family requests relatives and friends to visit the family owned Gonce Funeral Service P.A. 4001 Ritchie highway on Thursday from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Service will take place Friday at 9 AM, followed by interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
