John Joseph Stewart

Avid golfer and retired businessman, John “Joe” Joseph Stewart, Sr. of Pasadena, MD, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, at the age of 92 in his home in the care of loved ones.

Joe was born January 11, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland to Teresa Sophia (Frank) and Joseph Atley Stewart. He attended Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Joe was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952, achieving the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Korean Service Medal.  Upon his return from the war, he began a successful career as a food broker. Joe ultimately started his own business and worked past his 90th birthday. Joe was a scratch golfer for most of his life who shot below his age well into his 70's.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Anne; his son, John (wife Sharon); his daughters, Joanne Dunham (husband Dennis) and Patricia Pless (husband Rob); and his 3 grandchildren Destin, Heidi, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Frank Stewart.

Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 6-9 pm at Gonce Funeral Service, 169 Riviera Drive, in Riviera Beach, MD 21122. There will be a brief service at Gonce Funeral Service on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park at 12:00 pm.

Flowers are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation.
