Upon exiting the army, he went on to to work and retired after 41 years from the city of Baltimore Maryland as a civil Engineer. Vern became the City’s top inspector, where he was highly respected by his peers. His coworkers often enjoyed outings with Vern on fishing cruises on Vern's pride and joy his boat, (The Road runner) that he loved and owned for many years on his waterfront home on Riviera Beach MD.
His love for waterfront homes and boats followed him to Florida where he spent his last 5 years in San Remo Shores doing what he loved doing, cruising his sea fox, watching dolphins and manatee, and the parrots. He loved this boat and loved sharing with his friends and family, having a couple of beers and enjoying life to the fullest.
He was an outstanding captain having taken the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating & seamanship course on 4/28/1983. He knew all the tributaries of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay.
His love for all things fishing, boating, waterfront living was his way of life for 90 years. His cooler on board is seldom full of fish, yet never short on cold cans of Coors lite to share with anyone who stopped by for a visit.
Integrity, honor, respect, Harding working, loyal friend & smart, stubborn, smarty pants, funny, caring and the best personality that has enriched so many lives both in Baltimore & Bradenton and around the world. Watch over all of us babe. Will miss you daily.
