John Casey Sr. Obituary

Casey, John Paul Sr.

John Paul Casey Sr, passed peacefully on August the 30th, 2021. John was born in Walton, West Virginia on February the 14th, 1936. John graduated from Clendenin High School, Clendenin, WV, and attended both Marshall University and Morris Harvey College in WV. John graduated from Morris Harvey College with Bachelor’s degrees in both English and Biology. John worked as a teacher at the private schools of Staunton Military Academy, VA and the Sanford Naval Academy, FL.  After 30 years of service, John retired from the Orange County Health Department, FL working as both a health inspector and health educator. His true passion and calling, was as a Methodist Minister. He served the Lord faithfully as a lay leader at the Geneva United Methodist Church (FL) and as Pastor of the following churches: Osteen UMC, FL, Pine UMC, FL, and Tate UMC, GA.

While in Sanford, FL, John met the love of his life, Patsy McDavit, and they were married on March the 17th, 1965. John and Patsy have two children, John Jr. and Paula and he was a very loving and devoted Father. John is predeceased by his beloved wife Patsy (January the 22nd, 2021), parents Patrick and Lena Casey, and his favorite Uncle, Edward Goad. John is survived by his son John Jr. (Lisa), his daughter Paula (Casey) Herring, his beloved grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Paul (Cindy), Chloe, Chris, Matt, Valerie, Alex (Alyssa), and Sydney. Nieces Jeanie Lambert and Laura Parks, and great-nieces, cousins and friends.

John and Patsy previously resided in Geneva, Winter Park, and Summerfield, FL, and Tate, GA. Most recently in Pasadena, MD and at the Maryland Masonic Home in Cockeysville, MD. John was a voracious reader and loved to write.  A part of his heart always remained in his beloved birth state of WV. He reveled in old memories of family and of those days gone by. He had a gregarious personality, a wonderful and memorable laugh, and he absolutely loved to tell stories.  We’ve all heard intricate stories about trains, the good old days in West Virginia, as well as how to make his favorite caterer’s sauce (grape jelly and chili sauce mixed together). He liked to say, “to make a long story short” (which really meant the story wasn’t going to be short). All throughout, he maintained a wonderful scientific-like curiosity about life. He had a myriad of interests and hobbies including his love of trains, computers clock repair, locksmithing, auto repair, painting in watercolors and others. While raising their family in Geneva, John and Patsy were members of the Historical Society as well as the Garden Club. John was a Master Mason (50+ year member), and a member of Winter Park, FL lodge 239.He also maintained memberships in the following additional fraternal organizations:Royal and Select Masters of FL, Council No 20, Royal Arch Masons of FL, Monroe Chapter 15, Taylor Commandery No 28, Knights Templar, Elks Club No 1241, Sanford FL, and Bahia Shriners, Apopka, FL.

They enjoyed their numerous and beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. John most loved being a devoted husband father, and grandfather. Our father lost some of his spark when our beloved mother passed away. Our family takes some solace and comfort in knowing that our parents are reunited in love and together for eternity. Neither suffer any longer from their physical limitations that came with aging. We will miss them both greatly, but will always hold onto our cherished memories.

A joint memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in Geneva, FL with interment following at the Geneva Cemetery.
