John I Bass Jr. (1956 – 2020)
John Ival Bass Jr., 63, passed away suddenly of sepsis early Friday morning May 1 st, 2020 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. John was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Cadden Bass in 2002 and his father John Ival Bass Sr. in 2012.
John was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Riviera Beach, active in Boy Scouts and playing Lacrosse at Northeast High School where he graduated in 1974. He attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. John’s interest soon became focused on auto repair and he went into business at John’s Exxon in West Augusta, Virginia where he combined his auto mechanic skills with running a local convenience store and a hunting weigh-station. He later returned to Riviera Beach working at the Shell Station and other employment including antifreeze recycling, commercial filter replacement, and a jet ski business during summer months. He was employed with CCG Inc. in Riviera Beach until health and medical issues eventually caused him the loss of his right leg. John has been dedicated and for years active with the Riviera Beach Community Association and the Erosion Committee.
John enjoyed travel, especially trips with cousins to tropical locations where he loved to snorkel and scuba dive. He enjoyed family holiday gatherings, and will be greatly missed.
John was the oldest of four brothers and is survived by three brothers, Jeff Bass and his wife Debbie, Jim Bass and his wife Terri, and Jay Bass and his wife Sue, along with many nephews, nieces, and loving cousins.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, services are Private. A Celebration of Life gathering hopefully will be planned in the future, when circumstances permit such an event.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NCEON food bank.
