On February 2, 2026, JoAnne Jackson Smith passed away at age 80. She was the beloved wife of the late David E. Smith, Jr.; devoted mother of David E. Smith, III and William Holt and wife Janice; cherished grandmother of Anthony, Amanda, Melinda, Melody, and Brendan; dear great grandmother of Sara, Layla, Liam, Luca, Charlotte, Harper, Bella and Adrian; loving sister of Mickey Jean Chance and the late John and Jimmy.
JoAnne devoted more than 40 years of her life to serving the District Court of Maryland as a clerk, where she was known for her warmth, generosity, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. Always ready with advise or a listening ear, she touched countless lives. A deeply nurturing woman, she taught her sons the true meaning of kindness and generosity. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, especially shopping outings. The matriarch of her family, she was the source of comfort, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Relatives and friends may visit Gonce Funeral Service, 169 Riviera Drive, on Thursday (February 5, 2026) from 2 to 5 PM with a funeral service beginning at 3 PM.
She will be laid to rest in MD Veterans Cemetery Crownsville on Friday (February 27, 2026) at 11:30 AM.
