IGLEHART, JoANN
JoAnn Marie Iglehart passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Columbia, Maryland at age 83 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. JoAnn led a full life of kindness, compassion, joy, and friendship. JoAnn was born in Baltimore on May 19, 1942, and attended grade school at the Blessed Sacrament School and high school at the Institute of Notre Dame. After graduating from IND in 1960, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the College of Notre Dame and earned her masters from Loyola College. She was a beloved teacher at Catholic schools in Towson, Annapolis, and St. Petersburg, Florida. She brought her love of music and singing with her wherever she went, touching countless students’ lives with the gifts of her guitar, her voice, her energy, and her kindness. After teaching for 15 years, JoAnn left the School Sisters and embarked on a second career working for the Maryland Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (now the Division of Rehabilitation Services), retiring from her position as Regional Director in 2003 after almost 28 years of service. She never forgot her dedicated, caring DORS family. She lived in Cockeysville and later in Towson. JoAnn kept busy in retirement, for years volunteering much of her time for others, while still finding room for golf, watercolor painting, travel, family, and countless good friends. JoAnn was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Robert D. (Bob) and Mary R. (Jean) Iglehart, her sisters Jeanie (Iglehart) Schwind and Barbara Iglehart, and her nephew Paul Schwind, Jr. She is survived by her nephews Steven and Gregg Schwind, her niece Kate Schwind-Boone, and great-nephews and nieces Holly, Alex, Bobby, Douglas, A.J., Tanya, Terrence, Max, James, and Johanna. Her genuine kind-heartedness, broad smile, and laugh will live on in everyone who knew her. JoAnn was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2017, and moved to Columbia at the end of 2023. She is at peace now, and for this we are grateful.
One of JoAnn’s favorite quotes was from Etienne de Greillet:
“I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Gonce Funeral Service located at 4001 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn on Tuesday, January 20 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, with a prayer service at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation to the School Sisters of Notre Dame or a Parkinson’s Disease research organization of their choice.
