James Joseph Sheldon, 87, passed to eternal life on July 5, 2025. He was born October 30, 1937 to the late Tena Sheldon (nee Giza) and William H. Sheldon Sr. in Baltimore, MD, and was younger brother to the late William H. Sheldon Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen R. Sheldon (nee Pollock), and his devoted daughters, Kathleen L. Schroen (Michael), Theresa R. Sparks (Edward) and Sheila A. Goetz (Keith). He was the proud grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 10, soon to be 11. He is fondly remembered by many, including nieces, nephews, wonderful neighbors and dear friends.
"Jim" proudly served in the US Army, where he was trained as a truck mechanic and spent most of his service time in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he continued to excel as a mechanic, holding many positions that ultimately led him to a career in fleet management, 20 years of which he was Director of Fleet Operations for the Schmidt Baking Company, followed by H&S Bakery, both out of Baltimore, MD. He will be remembered for his ability to buy, sell, and repair cars and trucks, as well as restoring antique cars. Jim was very proud of his family, enjoyed talking with people and made friends wherever he went. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially if they were in need.
Jim's life will be celebrated beginning with a visitation 10:30AM - 12PM at Gonce Funeral Service in Brooklyn, MD, followed by a 12:30 Funeral Mass at St. Athanasius Chapel in Curtis Bay and an interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, MD. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are invited to do so by donating to Disabled American Veterans at dav.org or by contributing to your local animal shelter.
Feel free to express your condolences on his tribute wall.
