Grace passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of March 23, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her parents Florence and Straughn Schools. Born in Irvington, VA, her family moved to Baltimore in her teens and then to Linthicum. She graduated from Southern High School class of 1946. She met her husband, Bernard, married in November 1946. They were married 41 years till his passing in 1987.
Grace was an active lady and belonged to many organizations in AA County in her younger years. She did massive research in genealogy at the time when you went to the court houses and cemeteries and libraries to gather the information. She belonged to several Senior Centers and took advantage of any classes offered from line dancing to computer classes. She was an artist, her home is adorned with many of her favorites. Grace was, some would say, a health nut which most definitely played a part in her being and amazing, healthy 96 year old. Honey was the healer, from burns to hemorrhoids. She took classes in reflexology and loved to diagnose your problem by massaging your feet- much to the chagrin of some. She volunteered at the Benson-Hammond house as a tour guide of the house and worked on many of the strawberry festivals. One activity that she never gave up was her Monday gatherings with her special friends at McDonalds. The day she left for the hospital was spent there.
Grace was the beloved wife of 41 years to Bernard Jeffrey; Devoted mother of Jerry Jeffrey and wife Marie, Alethea Haislip and husband John, Sheila Trapp and husband Sonny and Jay Jeffrey and the late Susan Burris; Also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; Dear sister of the late Edward Schools, Bobby Schools, Olive Mae-McHugh, Myrtle Briggerman, Betty Phillips, Brenda Schools and David Schools.
Grace will be missed by many but always in our hearts. The knowledge she passed along over the years is priceless and we can all strive to continue to benefit from them.
