George Stanley Levandowski, Sr. 83, of Glen Burnie, Maryland passed over peacefully on March 1, 2026, with family members by his side. Father to Rosemarie, George, Jr. (Michelle), Cindy Mestro (Tony) and Brenda Waisner (Marshal), stepfather to Christine and Kenny (Pilkerton), grandfather to Charlie, Gage, Samantha, Chelsea, Brandon, Matthew, Sarah, Alex, and Mason, great-grandfather to Liliana, Elliana, Auriana, Beckham, and Landon.
Dad was born on March 25, 1942, in Maryland. He joined the Marine Corp at age 18 and shared countless stories of his time spent serving, most notably his time in Key West, Florida playing football for the Key West Jaguars. After serving his country, dad worked briefly at the old Seagram's Distillery in Baltimore before securing a position at the Broening Highway General Motors Plant where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 2005, when the plant closed. Dad was old school and had an incredible work ethic and did not like to be idle. After retirement, he quickly took on various other positions, eventually settling on work as a delivery driver with Whitmore Printing.
As previously mentioned, dad played football in the Marines and in civilian life dad played football with us kids, piling as many neighborhood kids as he could into his Chevy to drive to Lansdowne Middle School to play tackle football. Dad was a kid at heart and always made time to play. He would convert the living room in our childhood home into a makeshift baseball field, and us kids along with our friends would play “sock-baseball” on our knees for hours. He enjoyed cookouts with his many brothers and sister-in-laws, as well as his many nieces and nephews, who all referred to him as Uncle Butch. The Marine Corp physical fitness requirements never left our dad; pullups and pushups were a constant in his life, as was his use of the most recent version of the Chuck Norris Machine.
Besides his family and loved ones, Dad loved Elvis, Johnny Cash and the old westerns featuring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He enjoyed watching the Little League World Series and the Women's College Softball Championship because they played for love of the sport. Dad was funny and liked to make everyone laugh. He had a heart of gold and would give a stranger his last dollar and shirt off his back. He did not like to see any living being suffer or to go without. At mealtimes he ate last ensuring that all the youngsters had their share before he bothered to fill his plate. He gave of himself unselfishly and in the final hours before his passing his concern was not for himself, but for his loved ones.
Upon sorting through his belongings, my sister happened across a stamped envelope addressed to a donkey rescue, so with that, here is one final hee-haw dad and soar high, you “handsome critter.”
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to an animal rescue of choice.
