Dorothy Irene Cole (née Wilkerson)
Dorothy, or Grandma as everyone called her (family or not), represented the best in all of us. She was gracious and giving to a fault. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Born in Baltimore Maryland to a large family of meager means on February 5, 1930, the hardships at the beginning of her life did nothing to harden her heart. On the contrary, her heart and her home were open to everyone. She always had kind words, a warm hug, and a homemade meal to spare. She was never too busy or too involved in her own life to stop and be there for her family.
Times of great loss breed reflection; the level of love and sacrifice Dorothy demonstrated taught her family how truly great humanity is capable of being, of what we should all strive to be.
Our family lost its anchor today, and a piece of each of us is lost with her.
Dorothy is survived by the last of her nine siblings: John Wilkerson and Shirley Purkey
Her three children: David Cole, Karen Leatherwood, and Walter “Ed” Cole Jr.
Her grandchildren: Mike McDaniel, Tracy Leatherwood, Adam Leatherwood, Ronald “Ronnie” Sank Jr, Walter “Eddie” Cole III, Sharissa Cole, Jesse Cole, Melanie Cole, William Cole, Trae Cole, Austin Miles, Shane Miles, and Desiree Cole
As well as her great grandchildren: Kaiden Cole, Hailey Cole, Hunter Cole, Gabriella Blackett, Jaxstyn Cole, Maddie McDaniel, Ember Cole, Skylar Reed, Kayleigh Miles, Landon Miles, Dominic Sank, Neveah Sank, Christopher Ebert, Kaylie Ebert, Lexi Strumsky, and Chase Strumsky
She will be deeply missed.
