Doris Burkman Obituary

On March 6, 2024 Doris V. Burkman passed away peacefully at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center. Her sons William J. Burkman and Richard W. Burkman were at her bedside.

Doris is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Cross and husband Bruce, grandson Kenneth Burkman and wife Jenny, and great granddaughters Sylvia and Cora.

Other grandsons include Roy Hoke Jr, Jack Clark and Jeff Clark and their wives and children.

Doris was lovingly called Granny by her family and many, many friends.

Preceding Doris in death: her beloved husband William J Burkman Jr, her daughter-in-laws Janet D Burkman and Janet L. Burkman and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Doris was born, September 7, 1923. She was committed to long time service as evidenced by her 100 years of life, 64 years of loving marriage with Bill and her long service as a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church. A hobby would include keeping a clean and tidy house and clothes. While her house was spotless, all visitors were always made to feel welcome and comfortable. Another hobby was cooking and baking.

Gran was well known for her super thin, delicious sugar cookies and her tasty sour beef and dumplings.

Through the years, Doris and Bill traveled through many of the states of our beautiful country and also visited the Holy Lands , Spain, Ireland and other countries in Europe. Granny was on the quiet side, but when she could be coaxed to talking about her life, she shared many wonderful and interesting memories.

A viewing is scheduled for Monday , March 11 between 5-8PM. at Gonce Funeral Home.

Services will be Tuesday, March 12 at 11:30AM and will be conducted by Pastor Joseph Lettrich.
