Donald LeMay Obituary

LeMay, Donald M.

Donald was born in Arkansas in October 1933 to his parents, Jack and Maggie. Donald had 4 siblings Gwen, Betty, Lowell, and Peggy. They lived on a small farm; they picked cotton and shuck corn. Jack passed away, and Maggie remarried Eli Ward and took the family to Baltimore. Eli raised the kids as his own. Donald graduated from Southern High School in 1950. After Donald graduated, he joined the Army. Donald served in the Korean war, where he traveled to many countries in Europe. Donald was very proud that he had the opportunity to serve his country and told his family many stories of his experiences. When Donald was discharged from the Army, Donald came back to Baltimore. Donald began to work at the Bethlehem Shipyard for about a year.

Donald decided to quit his job and drive to Florida and worked different jobs for about a year. But he knew Baltimore was his home, and Donald missed his family. So when Donald came back, he worked as a car salesman until he could work at Bethlehem steel company in Sparrows Point. Donald met Mary, his wife of 60 years, and bought a house in the Brooklyn area. They had 4 children Margie, Curtis, Alan, and John. Donald and Mary raised brilliant, caring children, and Donald was very proud of them.

In 1984 Donald bought a home in Pasadena not too far from John Jack Downs Park. Donald always called it "his park." Donald would ride his bike or go for many walks in downs park. After Donald retired from Sparrows Point, he enjoyed spending his time at Downs Park. When Donald could not ride his bike and walk in the park, he would ride his scooter there and spend his day enjoying the nature.

Donald had 5 grandchildren, Max, Madison, Samantha, Alexandria, and Jacqueline, and Donald loved them all very much. Donald will be genuinely missed by his family. We all love Dad/ Poppop so much.

Here is a prayer that Donald would say just about every day, The Serenity Prayer:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference."
