On February 1, 2025, Donald Schwanke passed away at age 93. He was the beloved husband of 72 years to Marlene Schwanke (nee Miller); devoted father of Donna Miller, Mark Schwanke, and the late Donald B. Schwanke; cherished grandfather of Brent and Dana Miller, and Mark and Jenna Schwanke; and dear great grandfather of Piper, Chloe, and Tatum; also predeceased by his loving parents Mary and Louis Schwanke.
Donald Schwanke proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating courage and dedication in a time of conflict. Following his military service, he embarked on a nearly 40-year career as a longshoreman, earning respect for his hard work and dedication before retiring at the age of 59. A true family man, he found joy in creating handmade lawn ornaments and crafts for his beloved grandchildren, leaving behind treasured keepsakes that reflect his love and creativity. His devotion to both family and community will be fondly remembered.
Family requests relatives and friends visit Gonce Funeral Service, 4001 Ritchie Highway, on Tuesday (2/4/2025) from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM. Mr. Schwanke will be buried with military honors in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
