Clifton H. Calvert Obituary

Calvert, Clifton H.

On March 27, 2021 Clifton H. Calvert passed at the age of 91 at BWMC in Glen Burnie after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Nina Calvert, loving father of JoAnn Boomer and husband Neil, Linda Glenn, the late Clifton B. Calvert and wife Nancy, Donna Smith and husband William, William Calvert and wife Donna, Richard Calvert and wife Suzanne, Rita Belt and husband Wayne. He was Grand Pop or Pop-pop to 12 grandchildren and Great Pop-pop Or Pop-pop-pop to 12 great grandchildren. He was also a beloved “doggy-dad” to his Shih Tzu, Lulu.

Clifton attended grade school and middle school in Baltimore City. He left school in the eighth grade to begin working to help support his family. He was the youngest son in his family of 11 children: seven boys and four girls.

He began his military career with the Army in May 1951 and served his country in Korea earning a bronze star. He served in the Army reserves for several years after returning home.

After serving his country, Clifton began employment for Martin Marietta Company. His sister Sue introduced him to Nina Hart, and they were married in 1954.

Clifton owned and operated a bicycle and lawn mower business on Loch Raven Blvd. for over 50 years. He retired and sold his business at the age of 81.

He enjoyed many years of crabbing with family members. He was a bowler for over 40 years and continued to bowl through 2020. He loved gardening and growing fresh tomatoes. He enjoyed cooking and no one made home fries like he did.

Clifton was a Master Mason. He belonged to the Waverly lodge #152 for almost 49 years. He was a thirty-third degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Maryland.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend.

Clifton did not like to say goodbye but instead he would say, “see-ya”, followed by “good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, the Pope don’t die, and I survive.”

We will miss you every day more than words can say.

Family requests relatives and friends to visit the family owned Gonce Funeral Service P.A. 4001 Ritchie Highway on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service will begin at 11 AM, followed by interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park.
