Callahan, Carol L.
BROOKLYN PARK - Carol Lee Callahan, 76, of Brooklyn Park, passed away the evening of May 10, 2020. Carol is survived by her husband of 57 loving years, Walter Lee Callahan, her son James Lee Callahan & daughter-in-law Theresa Callahan and two step-grandchildren, Megan and Jake Brady, numerous friends & neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. & Gladys Ottesen; her brothers and sisters-in-law James C. (Sue) Bishop and Melvin (Alice) Bishop all of Milford, Ohio.
Carol was born May 8, 1944 in Baltimore; graduated from the St. Andrews Business Academy for Girls in 1960 and married her lifetime sweetheart, Walter Lee Callahan of Dalton, Georgia in 1962; then settled in Brooklyn Park and started their family. In 1976 Carol graduated from the Brooklyn Park School of Cosmetology to own and manage “Lee and Carol’s Beauty Salon” on Belle Grove Road. With her love for her clients, and the skills & support of her (Rescue 1 Baltimore City Firefighter) husband’s Master Barber talents, the shop was a local fixture for most of the 1980’s.
Aside from being a loving mother, wife, homemaker, and beloved community businesswoman; Carol was an adamant cat lover, music enthusiast (although she never played an instrument) and adored all things English. One of her favorite memories was tea in the Marble Arch area overlooking Hyde Park during a visit to London, England.
In the last few years Carol enjoyed attending Glen Mar UMC in Ellicott City; spoke highly of their music ministry in which her son performs as a guitarist. As her health continued to deteriorate, she found great solace in visits from her husband, status updates of her cat Jasper and listening to a CD of songs recorded by her son.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love, beauty, and feline/humanitarian good will. Carol will be laid to rest privately with her family by her side in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Private funeral services will be Thursday at Gonce Funeral Home 4001 Richie Highway, Brooklyn Park with limited visitation open to friends at Gonce Funeral Home.
