Betty Irene Schmier

Betty Irene Schmier, 80, of Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 1, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born on September 7, 1945, in Harford County, Maryland, Betty lived a life centered on family, friendship, and caring for others. She was the beloved wife of Marion Leroy Schmier Sr., with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Betty worked for many years as an assistant in an eye doctor’s office, where her kindness and dedication touched the lives of countless patients and coworkers. She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and willingness to always help.

Betty especially cherished summers spent at Riverbend, where family and friends always knew they were welcome. She loved gathering loved ones together, sharing meals, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Her greatest joy was caring for those around her and making everyone feel at home and loved.

She is survived by her loving husband, Marion Leroy Schmier Sr.; her daughter, Tammy and husband Christopher Douglas; her sister, Nancy Blevins; her grandchildren, Megan, Katie, Dalton, Alexis, Savanah, Madyson, and Peyton; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Maxton, Nora, Delainee, Crue, Tate and baby boy. Many great grand dogs, nieces, nephews family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Scott Vincent Schmier and Marion Leroy “Sach” Schmier Jr.; and her brother, Butch Blevins and her mother Ruth Lee Mabery.

Betty’s legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind countless cherished memories and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched.

Though she is no longer with us, Betty’s love, kindness, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever. 

Family requests relatives and friends visit Gonce Funeral Service, P.A., 4001 Ritchie Highway, on Sunday (June 7, 2026) from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 AM.
