Barbara Schwartzman Obituary

Barbara Ann Schwartzman (née Hoffmaster), born April 10, 1943, passed away peacefully on a beautiful spring Saturday morning, March 21, 2026, following a lengthy illness.

A devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Barbara lived a life defined by her deep and unwavering love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard George, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion and partnership, as well as her two sisters, Carol and Gloria.

Barbara is survived by her loving children: her son, Richard James Jr. and his spouse Shannon; her daughter, Tracy; and her son, David, and his fiancée Melissa, her brother, Michael Detorie, and her sisters Kathy Campo and Joni Detorie.

She was immensely proud of her family, especially her seven grandchildren: Richard James III and his spouse Sangita, Joshua, Phillip, Tyler, Bradley, Savannah, and David Jr.; and her six greatgrandchildren: Logan, Jocelyn, Emmaleigh, Isaiah, Isabella, and Tracy Lynn.

In her most recent work life, Barbara built a successful career as a warehouse supervisor at Softland International. She was known for her strong work ethic, steady leadership, and ability to rise to any challenge. Her colleagues respected her reliability, and many became lifelong friends.

In her earlier years, Barbara enjoyed bartending, where her warm personality and quick wit made her a natural behind the bar. She also loved karaoke, bringing joy and laughter to those around her with her enthusiasm and spirit.

Outside of work, Barbara cherished time spent with family and friends. She especially enjoyed vacationing and hosting gatherings in her home, where she created lasting memories for those she loved.

Barbara will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the deep love she had for her children and family. It brings comfort to know that she is now at peace, in a better place, perhaps sitting quietly and enjoying a warm cup of tea or a crabcake platter.

Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—all of whom were fortunate to know and love her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Family and friends are invited to visit Gonce Funeral Service, P.A., 4001 Ritchie Highway, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 3–5 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Meadow Ridge Cemetery.

Please feel free to express your condolences on her tribute wall.
