Barbara Ann Smith

Barbara Smith (nee Booth) passed away on July 21, 2021 at the age of 60, after a courageous battle against glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

GBM is an aggressive form of brain cancer and Barbara aggressively fought to suppress it up until her point of surrender. Her final days were spent surrounded by loved ones who sat bedside and recounted memories of love and laughter created over the years.

Barbara Ann was born on November 28, 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Peter and Reva Booth. She grew up in the area known as Pigtown.

On September 7, 1979, she married the love of her life, the late Alan E. Smith.

Barbara worked as an office administrator at Southgate Dental for 25 years. She enjoyed her job and working alongside her best friend Jean. 

Simple pleasures in life included boating and crabbing with her husband Alan; during such excursions they referred to one another as Skipper and Dipper. Barbara enjoyed going on trips, spending time with family and her dog Yoshi. During her illness she looked forward to visiting Bingo World to see her ladies (which meant playing the Bingo Ladies slot machine) and outings with her long time friend Harold Merson.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Mandy Smith and Megan (Mike) Comegys; brother Joseph (Angela) Kurtz, and sister Dawn (Brian) Leverton. Grandchildren include Karena, Nathaniel, Olivia, and soon to be born Wesley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her granddaughter Alayna and her sister Patricia Mernaugh. 

May we find solace knowing Barbara’s departure reunited her with her soul mate Alan.

Family requests relatives and friends to visit the family owned GONCE FUNERAL SERVICE P. A. 4001 Ritchie Hwy on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held in Glen Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
