Anne Nelson Obituary

Anne Bernadette Nelson (nee McGinley) died peacefully in her sleep on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna McGinley. She was the beloved wife of Carl Nelson, III having met him in their hometown of Bristol, Pennsylvania.  Anne is survived by her children Keith Nelson and his wife, Hala, Stacy Levery and her husband, Robert, Alan Nelson and his wife, Betsy, and Timothy Nelson. She is the cherished grandmother to Kaleb Levery, Declan Levery and Sary Alcala Shehadeh. She is the devoted sister of Mary Smith & Judi McGinley. She is also survived by her dear in-laws Mary Kuznicki (Ray), Wayne Nelson (Jane), Judy Lake (Jimmy), Elaine Nelson along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by in-laws Carl Nelson, Jr. and Elizabeth Nelson, John Nelson, James Nelson and his wife, Nancy.

Anne was a dedicated parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church in Linthicum since moving to MD with Carl in 1970.  She served as a teacher and volunteer at SPN School for many years.  She went on to support the young parishioners of SPN in the role of the Director of Religious Education. During her time as a volunteer and employee at SPN, Anne formed countless and enduring friendships with her teacher and catechist colleagues, as well as her students.

She was very involved in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, having joined the Junior Catholic Daughters as a teenager at St. Mark’s Church in Bristol Borough.  Anne was an active member of CDA Ct. Mother Seton at St. Philip Neri, moving on to also support the Maryland State Court as an Officer and Regent, and eventually serving in the role of National Regent.  She was most recently a member of CDA Ct. Howard. Her work as a Catholic Daughter included charitable work with Habitat for Humanity, SOAR, Apostleship of the Sea, and many others. After serving as CDA National Regent, Anne was invited to serve as a Director of The Family Rosary, Inc. for Holy Cross Family Ministries whom she supported through fall 2022.

Anne loved to travel, whether it be a day adventure with her children and friends, a pilgrimage or convention with Catholic Daughters, or a road trip, national park or cruise with her husband and family. She enjoyed collecting ornaments, postcards and photographs from her many travels across the United States and beyond.

Anne moved to Charlestown Senior Living Community in Catonsville in January 2020, where she enjoyed establishing many supportive friendships with her neighbors and fellow residents.
