On May 12, 2018 Susanne M. Koenig (nee Theiss). Beloved wife of the late Lawrence W. Koenig. Cherished mother of Margaret (Peggy) Koenig and Lawrence (Larry) J. Koenig. Dear daughter of the late George and Ruth Theiss (nee Daley). Also survived by other loving relatives nieces, nephews and dear friends. 

Susanne was a dedicated educator.  After earning a bachelor's degree from Seton Hill College and a master's degree from Duquesne University, she taught for 10 years in Pennsylvania's Pittsburgh Public School system, at Allegheny High School and Fifth Avenue High School. Upon marrying her high school sweetheart, Susanne put her career on hold, moved to Maryland, and started a family.  After substitute teaching for a number of years, she restarted her teaching career at St. Philip Neri School, teaching language arts and Latin to middle school students for 17 years.

Susanne was a very active parishioner at St. Philip Neri Church, lectoring at masses for nearly 30 years and later becoming an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.  She utilized her skills as a master teacher to train altar servers, many of whom were also her students.  Upon retiring from teaching, Susanne became a sacristan, helping with daily mass, funerals, baptisms, and preparing student lectors and ushers for school masses.

Susanne was a voracious reader and loved all God's creatures, great and small.  She adored watching Ravens games almost as much as her favorite soap opera, Days of Our Lives.  Susanne was a selfless wife, mother, friend, and teacher, and touched thousands of lives.  

The family requests relatives and friends to visit the family owned Gonce Funeral Service P. A.  4001 Ritchie Hwy. on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Philip Neri Church on Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
