Marin Solis, Jr. Obituary

Solis, Marin Jr.

On Monday, November 19, 2018 Marty Solis, age 92, went home to heaven. Marty was the beloved husband of 23 years to Evelyn " Evie" Solis of Stevensville, Maryland and devoted father of Laura and Debera Solis of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, daughters he shared with his late wife Penny Link. Born on Saturday July 31, 1926 in Waukegan, Illinois he was son of the late Marin Solis and Jesus Saldana of Guanajuato, Mexico and was the eldest of five children. Marty was the cherished brother of Rose Solis Sladen of Pleasant Hill, California and the late Beda, Arnie and Joe. He was the loving step-father of Gary Armstrong (wife Jen), and Sherri Turner and was also blessed with grandchildren: Rina Sullivan, Kimberly Townsend, Alex Partridge, Patrick Partridge, Michael Partridge (wife Sabine), Jason Armstrong, Kyle Armstrong and Devin Turner and great grandchildren: Natalie, Conner and Leila. Being involved with his grandchildren, encouraging and guiding them in heart-felt conversations showed his constant love for his family.

A radio-dispatcher in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, and recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific, American & Victory Medals, Mr. Solis later studied at George Washington University. During his school years he played baseball, basketball and football; his love for sports remained with him always. Years later he opened Solis Fence Company. In the 35 years that he operated his successful business, he served under many titles of the International Fence Industry Association, such as Board of Directors and was very active in the American Fence Association, Mid-Atlantic Area. Marty mentored many who were starting their own business, offering his advice and experience.

Marty went to Mexico for his family reunion each year and traveled with his wife Evie everywhere from Canada to Mexico. He enjoyed going to the Ocean and especially loved trips to Maine where he was always on the lookout for "real moose". Even until age 90, Marty enjoyed swimming laps every week.

Many will remember Marty for his moose collection, how he liked Martinis, his gentleness, and deep appreciation for a good conversation, but no doubt he will be missed by all who loved him.

Visiting  will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018, at Island Alliance Church 510 Thompson Creek Rd., Stevensville, Md 21666, from 9:30 to 11am, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:15am.
