Oliver Jerome Bowen

Oliver Jerome Bowen (Ollie), 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23rd at his home in Millersville, with his family by his side.  Ollie was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 18, 1927.  He was the son of the late Anna Elizabeth Otterbein and Alfred Hilary Bowen. He grew up on “Little” William Street in South Baltimore.  

Ollie married Dorothy Mae Buttner on November 12, 1949.  They resided in the Curtis Heights/Brooklyn area for nearly 60 years.  He was a lineman and electrical foreman for the B & O Railroad and the Chessie System for almost 50 years.  He served in the Armed Forces as a radarman, completing a tour of duty in Korea.  Ollie was an active member of the Towson Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Brooklyn for more than 35 years.  Most recently, he attended Anchor Baptist Church in Millersville.  Ollie enjoyed spending time in fellowship with his family and friends, and caring for his beloved wife and pet cat, Sneakers.  He also enjoyed reading and hunting for bargains.  His shopping trips to Aldi’s were the highlight of his weekly routine.

Ollie is survived by his wife of 67 years.  He was the loving father to Jerome F. Bowen and wife Karen.  He was the proud grandfather of Matthew Jerome Bowen and wife Sanni, and Sarah Kate Bowen.  He is also survived by his sister Anna Young and blessed with many nieces and nephews and loving friends.

The family will receive friends at Gonce Funeral Home on Friday, June 30th, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m..  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 1st at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
