  Callahan, Jillanne Lynn

Jillanne’s sudden and untimely passing occurred at the University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Critical Care Resuscitation Unit due to complications of cardiac and respiratory arrest.

On October 14, 2016, Jillanne Lynn Callahan, Beloved wife of Mr. James Lee Callahan; Beloved Daughter in law of Mr. Walter L. and Mrs. Carol L. Jillanne's heart was full of love for all of her students at Point Pleasant Elementary School, and also for her pet cats Dee and Tux.

A Special Education teacher at Point Pleasant Elementary School since 2002, the school principal and her colleagues described Jillanne as " a dedicated, passionate and talented teacher with a soft-spoken and calming presence that endeared her to students and colleagues alike. She was kind, gentle, loving, and patient with every student she encountered, and she will be deeply missed."

Jillanne earned her bachelor of Arts in human Relations/Psychology at Mansfield University, Pennsylvania in 1989 and worked as assistant director of social services at Bradford County Manor, PA, where she met her husband James, who at the time worked regionally (Maryland, Pennsylvania/Delaware) as a medical software engineer and onsite facilities software trainer.  Jillanne and James were married on October 22, 1993, just months after they met. Jillanne moved to her husband's hometown, Baltimore, and resumed her career in social work, employed by Mariner Health Care and later by Good Samaritan Nursing Center. In 1999, Jill decided to pursue her lifelong interest in education and desire to work with special needs children, and in 2002 Jillanne completed post-graduate work at Coppin State College Baltimore, MD earning her teaching certification through Anne Arundel County.  In 2015 Jillanne received her Masters of Science in Curriculum & Instruction from McDaniel College Westminster, MD.

Jillanne was a talented photographer, chef, and adamant animal lover.  She and her husband were patrons of the arts and together enjoyed concerts, art exhibitions and the theater.

Jillanne’s Husband, James affirms his love and devotion stating “Jill carried herself with the utmost levels of grace and beauty, she had a calming manner that brought peace and comfort wherever she went. The touch of her hair, the warmth of her smile and assurance in her eyes brought me the greatest solace and joy that I have ever known. I will forever remember Jill as, my wife, my eternal soulmate, the love of my life and my best friend; taken away from me and this world too soon... she was and will forever be my world”.
